Life can sometimes feel too difficult, overwhelming or even hopeless, and often hard to make sense of alone.  You may know what is troubling you or simply have a feeling that something isn't right.  Perhaps something has happened in the past that continues to affect you in the now, or you find yourself responding to situations in ways you don't fully understand.

Be yourself, be heard, be helped.

You don't need to have all the answers before you come for therapy. I aim to provide a safe, comfortable and thoughtful space, where we can explore your experiences together, without judgement and at your pace.

About Me

I trained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Nottingham, graduating with first class honours in my BSc degree in Integrative Humanistic Counselling and Psychotherapy.

As a therapist my philosophy is based around the belief that all people are more than their actions and thoughts, the difficulties they experience and the things that have happened in life for better or worse.  My approach acknowledges the whole person, focussing on the human instinct to seek change and growth from the inner strength, goodness and self-compassion I profoundly believe exists within all people.

My humanistic approach aims to see you in context of your own unique experiences, placing empathy, non-judgment and truthfulness at the heart of my therapy, along with honouring your autonomy in determining your own direction. I work with the close connection between thoughts, emotions and embodied responses, aiming for us to develop your attunement to your nervous system, through which you will find a deeper self-understanding.  We learn to regulate your intuitive senses, bringing together your various conscious and unconscious parts, enabling you to move forward in life with more awareness and self-kindness.

Why therapy?

People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, grief, relationship difficulties, unwanted thoughts or the effects of trauma.

You may feel overwhelmed by your emotions, disconnected from them, shamed by your struggle to cope or unsure of what you feel at all. Or you may simply feel that you would like to build a robust therapeutic relationship to understand yourself more deeply.

Whatever brings you, we begin from wherever you are, without judgment.

The presenting past

There is no fixed way of doing therapy and our work together will unfold organically.

My methods will adapt to you, rather than expecting you to fit a particular model. Therapy often raises earlier-life experiences and relationships, which we try to address in context of their impact on your ‘here and now’ experience, rather than emphasising on re-living the past.

We may make connections to harmful patterns that seem to repeat in your life and bring different aspects of ‘you’ into conscious awareness.

The therapeutic relationship

Your therapy is something we will both experience.  I believe the effectiveness of the therapeutic relationship is the most vital aspect of psychotherapy.

Amongst other things it provides the sense of safety needed to explore those thoughts and feelings that may otherwise be difficult to speak out.  The other focal relational aspect is your relationship with self, and I will closely support you as we allow your congruent, true self to emerge.  I will never tell you who you should be, what you should think or what you should do.  Instead, I will meet you where you are, with openness, curiosity and acceptance.

Sometimes the experience of being understood can be meaningful in itself.

An embodied approach

Our bodies carry our emotional experiences including traumatic events that can remain embedded long afterwards. Sometimes we can understand something intellectually while still finding ourselves reacting in ways we don't fully understand. In such moments it can be useful to slow everything down and by paying attention to your embodied experience, bring clarity to what is emotionally happening for you.  While also valuing thoughts and cognitive understanding, I will help you avoid rushing towards ‘thinking’ your way to explanations or solutions, as you learn to connect more to your felt sense of self.

This process may provide insight into the ways you have learned to respond to the world around you.
